Dear Friends and Colleagues,
Happy New Year!
Thank you for your interest in Just The Basics, Inc®. 2009 was both a challenging and successful year, with our mission to provide vital business results for the leaders of small businesses and non-profit organizations. We are proud to have achieved our fifteenth anniversary this year. You contributed to that achievement – thank you.

- Linda S. Gravett and Terri Bonar-Stewart joined forces in September, 2009 so that we could increase our offerings to clients. The new partnership still operates as Just The Basics because we want to make solutions as simple and elegant as they can be.
- We reached a milestone in December of fifteen years of service to small businesses and non-profits. Some of the highlights for 2009. . .
- Remarkably, 2009 was the year of getting compensation right, with five comp studies completed. Editorial comment: These five organizations were ensuring their best employees would remain with them in these economic times and into the future.
- Additionally, toward ensuring the future, numerous job descriptions were developed (we lost track of the number) and many more were tweaked to ensure that the expectations of the CEO were clearly delineated.
- And, critical success factors and competencies were added to these job descriptions.
- We delivered twenty-eight presentations which encompassed travel to fifteen cities, ten states and three countries. A sample of organizations and topics include:
- Northern Kentucky Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM) – Conducting An HR Audit
- Small Business Owners Association – Goal-setting
- Northern Kentucky Chamber University – Networking for Introverts
- Organizational Consulting Class – Northern Kentucky University – Starting and Building a Lifestyle Consulting Business
- International Conference on Emotional Intelligence – Avoiding the Pitfalls of Using Emotional Intelligence Assessments
- National Human Resource Association – Using Your Emotional Intelligence to Develop Others
- We trained
- Twenty-four students in SHRM certification classes at Xavier University, with the result of a 100% pass rate.
- We coached seven CEOs and three Vice Presidents in employee relations, hiring separations/severance and employee communications.
- Additionally, we coached salespeople in communication skills, using video for before and after proof of skill development.
- Just FYI, several other proposals (outstanding at this writing) were for improved employee communication skills.
- We published twelve articles on our web site ̶ you can access them under "Articles" at www.justthebasics.com, as well as an article in the "Business Journal", the Northern Kentucky Chamber newsletter.
- Terri was quoted in at least four articles, including the world's largest online social network, The Times Educational Supplement, London, as well as:
- The Journal of Vascular and Interventional Radiology, both on "Management That Suits The Individual."
- Asian Nursing Research, Korean Society of Nursing Science
- The quotes were a result of an original article in Newborn and Infant Review on "Leading and Working With Different Kinds of People ̶ It's a Neapolitan World."
- And, the Harvard Business Review on the Ethics of Management, How Frank or Deceptive Should Leaders Be? ̶ HBS Working Knowledge.
- Linda had a book published: Using Your Emotional Intelligence to Develop Others, co-authored with Sheri Caldwell, Ph.D. This book is available on Amizon.com and through Barnes and Noble.
- We revamped the functionality of our website (www.justthebasics.com) giving it new features and making it more user friendly. There are more changes coming in February, 2010.
None of these activities could have been accomplished without our good friends and colleagues. We thank you for your support of our mission to serve small businesses and non-profits.
We sincerely hope we can look forward to a continuing great relationship and if there is anything we can do for you, please let us know.
We wish you a healthy, successful and prosperous New Year!
